S because of they being In Gangs And I Just gangs and I just like those things make him realize that the street was no good and that to get a education and a carrier is the best path to go it also made me realize the same thingI think the main point of this book is to tell people what ever situation you are going threw or what ever the place you living in its important for to get educated and get a carrierDrRios made it in life he did drugs he was in gangs he had so many people don t believing in him but he made itHe made a good change in his life and yes at first for him and for anybody that changes at first is hard but it word itNow look at DrRios he got his game together and now he is a professor of sociology he never thought he word do it their but he did and coming from the hoodIt doesn t matter where you from as long as you have determination and self confidence you can change for good and reach your goals and achieve a lot of things you never thought you were going to do like DrRios Brilliant and wonderful An easier pretty ick read for me but it packed a punch and made it so many many people no matter their reading level can enjoy it and learn from him I give him massive props for all he has accomplished and has achieved in his life Great job Dr Rios and keep on keeping on This is a great choice for reluctant young readers It is an inspirational true story of Victor Rios and his childhood in Mexico City and Oakland He discusses how he was very poor and suffered neglect He is attracted to the protection and friendship that a local gang provides Each chapter is very short Rios leaves out many of the horrific details other memoirs about former gang members Always Running Monster feature He describes how a connection with a high school teacher put him on the path to a CSU and eventually UC Berkeley to obtain his PhD He is now a professor of sociology at UC Santa Barbara The book Street Life by Victor Rios a nonfiction book that has. Nia at Berkeley Dr Rios Articles On Xanth Books Including uses his personal story and 10 years of research experience to discuss how personal and institutional illusions contribute to academic failure He speaks about how society gives young people little choice but tose their attitude to solve their problems and how this strategy often leads to detrimental conseuences He discusses practical pathways to transformation relevant to the lives of students Dr Rios speaks about his own personal transformation by taking advantage of the support that teachers and programs provided I love this book A clear example that one has the capacity to change one s future I recently met Dr Rios at a school leaders conference and was so impressed by his presentation that I bought several of his books including this memoir The book is solid What it may lack in style and detail it makes p for through its positive messages and youth friendly tone The point is to inspireOne problem that I had while through its positive messages and youth friendly tone The point is to inspireOne problem that I had while this book was the lack of details in the long and challenging periods of Dr Rios s life Many sections boiled down to This was a really tough period of my life but I made it through with hard work and the support of the people around me For someone who is going through the drudgery of college I am interested In Learning About How Dr Rios Overcame The Long Nights learning about how Dr Rios overcame the long nights the heavy work loadsHowever as I came to realized near the end that is not the point of this book It is to inspire young people to strive for a better life through education and hard work instead of through shady means And while some details would surely make the book interesting it would ltimately be unnecessary or even harmful to what the author wanted to achiev considering the target audienceSo or even harmful to what the author wanted to achiev considering the target audienceSo t read this with the expectation of getting a detailed step by step guide to improve your life like I did Use this book as inspiration and a strong one it is to help you work towards the great life that is waiting for you down the long and spiky road If the author could go from a juvenile gangster to a doctor I m sure you can achieve amazing things in your life too I read this book in 10th gradeI just loved it so much and thought it was amazing because DrRios is from Oakland like meAll he talks about is so trueOakland is full of gangs drugs and bad influencesMany people get killed everyday because of all this thingsAs I read this book I just had so many connectionsLike he got s lots of friends that lost their lives because of gangs I also had lost friend. Honestly caught my attention in so many ways as well as personal Is one of my favorite books i have read so far because me personally can relate a lot to it When I started reading this book was how it then made me realize I have a stronger and powerful way of letting the readers know how important school is and can be later on in the way of letting the readers
#know how important #
how important is and can be later on in the For him an easier way to join a gang group at the age of 13 that then made him drop out of school Therefore it lead him no where but a difficult life due to how he left his education for something worthless that later on affected him Without him knowing an or imagining how hard it would then get and be for him trying to take a better path and going back to finish school Based on his story it explains and shows a whole deep nderstanding on how young people are important and that adults schools as well as the community need to help young people be successful Thats one thing that I learned when reading this book and that im not likely to forget in the near future can become a great benefit for all of Feminist Nightmares us As well as knowing how important is being able to go to school and get an education that then can and will benefits later on in life This is the most inspiring book I have read DrRios is a friend of mine and when I heard his story it inspired me to continue the fight to overcome what I was in He wrote this book to appeal to a younger audience in a way they would nderstand He spoke in a way to relate to as many people as possible if grammar wasn t perfect that was fine the message is important He never expected this to be an academic book and yet it was taught at UC Berkeley in my sociology class Grammar doesn t have to be perfect it is the meaning that can be drawn from the everyday way of speaking about your life That s what this book was meant for a conversation meant to inspire readers to ask estions as well as The Dominion Mandate understand what it is like on the other side of society s perfect white fenc. Im and discusses how these efforts can be replicated This book is written to speak to a young adult audience those young people who live on the margins who are often assigned texts that do not represent their lived reality their struggles or their experiences Educators and youth workers canse each of the short chapters in this book as tools for discussing complicated social issues like abuse youth violence delinuency fatalism opportunity stratification poverty resilience college positive role models healthy choices and personal transformati.
