Sometimes witty sometimes a nife that scratches old wounds #SOMETIMES CLEAR SOMETIMES VAGUE I HAVE HIGHLIGHTED MANY SENTENCES #clear sometimes vague I have highlighted many sentences this book so that I can easily find my favorite parts later The point is the parts I have not highlighted are not those I didn t like but are those which I have to spend much time to understand Wow Such a tiny book with stories from two three sentences to two pages yet very didacticI read some of them twice trying to figure out the allegories the meaning of themSuch a uick read but worth every word This was a cool little oddity Apparently German audiences are a lot casual with categorizing prose These stories would confound American readers bent on reading them as short STORIES THEY ARE LIKE PARABLES RIDDLES They are like parables riddles aphorismsThe tone is didactic yet sly Brecht s Mr Keuner is an Everyman for the modern era In fact a lot of the folk inspired wisdom he espouses is about the prospect of growing urbanization and the compartmental nature of modern life Obviously Brecht is up to his usual dialectical playfulness When it really comes together alas only a few times he manages to say something brilliant A man who had not seen Mr K for a long time greeted him with the words You have. Bertolt Brecht's Stories of Mr Keuner is a collection of fables aphorisms and comments on politics everyday life and exile From 1930 til his death in 1956 Brecht penned these ironic portraits of his times as he was changing countries oft. ,
